The 2016 GMC Canyon will be offered with a 2.8-liter Duramax diesel engine, an option that will surely garner the ever-popular mid-size pickup truck even more interest. Before it hits the market, the Canyon diesel will already be one of the most vaunted trucks in the segment, having earned the top honor in the 9th Canadian Truck King competition. All hail.

“This recognition by the Canadian Truck King Challenge demonstrates that the new Duramax diesel takes the GMC Canyon’s award-winning capabilities to a new level in the midsize pickup segment, delivering real world capabilities that GMC customers demand,” said Mike Speranzini, brand director, GMC in Canada. “A diesel engine was in the portfolio plan for Canyon from the beginning, meaning there are no compromises while offering segment leading capability delivered with a confident feeling of control.”

The 2016 GMC Canyon diesel is SAE-certified at 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, can deliver up to 7,700 pounds of trailering capacity when properly equipped, and will be the most fuel efficient truck on the market.

“The re-introduction of the GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado has revitalized the midsize truck segment in Canada—however, for 2016, with the further addition of a small diesel engine the GMC Canyon has been recognized by the judges at the Canadian Truck King Challenge as being a true innovation,” said Howard Elmer, founder and director of the Canadian Truck King Challenge.  “Congratulations to GMC on the segment win awarded to the diesel powered GMC Canyon for 2016.”
