In 2015, GMC took the pickup truck by storm by reintroducing the Canyon mid-size truck. With a combination of power, efficiency, and luxury, the 2015 Canyon was a smash hit with new vehicle shoppers across the country and a hot-selling hit for the GMC brand. The Canyon returns for 2016 with a few new tricks up its already tricked-out sleeve.

2.8-liter Duramax diesel engine
What’s New for the 2016 GMC Canyon?
The biggest addition to the 2016 MY is the late-year inclusion of a 2.8-liter Duramax turbodiesel engine option. The 2016 Canyon also adds Apple CarPlay and a standard rear-sliding window for the SLT model.

2016 GMC Canyon Exterior
The 2016 GMC Canyon returns the same exterior that made the 2015 model a hit. It’s smooth and elegant while simultaneously carrying an aggressive air. The Canyon is offered in three body styles: Extended Cab; Crew Cab, Short Box; and Crew Cab, Long Box.

2016 GMC Canyon V6 VVT
2016 GMC Canyon Performance
The Canyon is offered with three different powertrain options: the 2.5-liter DOHC I-4, the 3.6-liter V6 VVT DI, and the 2.8-liter Duramax turbo diesel. The 2.5-liter generates 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque; the 3.6-liter generates 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque; and the Duramax will generate 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The Canyon offers a max trailering rating of up to 7,000 pounds when properly equipped.

2016 GMC Canyon Efficiency
Fuel efficiency varies depending on powertrain, transmission, and drive configuration. With the 2.5-liter, the Canyon is rated at 19 mpg city/26 mpg highway in 2WD manual, 20 mpg city/27 mpg highway in 2WD automatic, and 19 mpg city/25 mpg highway in 4WD automatic. The 3.6-liter-equipped Canyon is only offered with an automatic transmission, and it returns 18 mpg city/26 mpg highway in 2WD and 17 mpg city/24 mpg highway in 4WD. EPA estimates for the Duramax diesel will be released closer to its fall rollout.

2016 GMC Canyon Safety
The GMC Canyon is built on a strong, fully boxed perimeter frame that is durable and reliable. Four-wheel disc brakes with Duralife brake rotors are standard on Canyon and offer as much as double the braking life and performance. The 2016 Canyon also offers six standard airbags, rear-vision camera, and StabiliTrak electronic stability control in addition to an available Driver Alert Package that includes Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning.
