Arguably the least visible member of the GMC family, the Savana has been around in its current incarnation for a long, long time. How long? The Savana has gone largely unchanged since the halcyon year of 1996.

For the 2015 model year, GMC did away with the 1500 model, leaving only the Savana 2500 and Savana 3500. Now, a number of changes have been announced for the 2016 model, affecting the Passenger, Cargo, Cargo Paratransit, and Cutaway models.

The two largest changes keep the Savana consistent with the rest of the GM family—rear vision camera and OnStar 4G LTE with built in Wi-Fi hotspot. Depending on the model chosen, new additions include a more powerful 220-amp alternator; power-adjustable and heated outside mirrors; Color Touch Navigation radio with IntelliLink; NavTraffic traffic service; and dual isolated battery system.

These changes are unlikely to make the 2016 GMC Savana of any more appeal to anyone who doesn’t absolutely need a passenger or cargo van, but hey, one never knows. Maybe these updates are that one thing that will spark a sudden rise in Millennials buying vans. Or maybe not.
