The revamped 2016 Honda Pilot will soon be strutting its stuff in showrooms all across America. This Alabama-bred beauty, set to go on-sale next month at Honda dealerships nationwide, began mass production today.

1,500 Honda Manufacturing of Alabama associates celebrated, some holding signs, as the all-new third-generation Pilot’s sleek new body rolled down an aisle of parted workers.

The Pilot went to the Los Angeles design studio of Honda R&D Americas, Inc., first to trim up. Then, makeover complete, it presumably returned to Alabama to celebrate with a crawfish boil.

Honda Manufacturing of Alabama president Jeff Tomko praised local workers for helping to deliver the new models.

“Today we celebrate the incredible dedication of our Alabama team to delivering an outstanding new Pilot that will set the course for others to follow,” Tomko said. “I want to congratulate our associates for their unqualified commitment to building a new Pilot of the highest quality that exceeds the expectations of our customers.”

Changes to the new 2016 Pilot include a more spacious cabin, and a more efficient and powerful powertrain. The vehicle’s pricing and EPA estimated fuel efficiency figures were revealed yesterday.

“Our U.S.-based development team lives with the midsize family SUV everyday and we have applied our deep understanding into the development of this best ever, third-generation Pilot,” said Marc Ernst, development leader for the Pilot. “We advanced Pilot’s dual-purpose character by increasing both family utility and personal sophistication to meet the needs of the driver and passengers in every dimension of their life.”
