For the 2016 model year, the most obvious change to the Elantra GT’s design is a front-end makeover. However, Hyundai has also made changes to the power steering system to give the 2016 Elantra GT a more smooth, responsive ride. In addition, drivers can now opt for an available Tech package that upgrades them to a more advanced infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen.

The Hyundai Elantra GT’s new front nose is characterized by a larger, sharper hexagonal grille that reflects the brand’s current styling cues. In addition, the roof of the 2016 Elantra GT has been lowered to give the hatchback a more windswept, sporty appearance and is more in line with Hyundai’s new Fluidic Sculpture design language. New available features for the exterior include available LED taillights and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT only comes in one trim level, which in turn only offers a single engine: the 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine capable of an output of 173 horsepower and 154 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission comes standard, but drivers also have the option of a six-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC technology. The Hyundai Elantra GT also offers three different Driver Selectable Steering Modes: Comfort, Normal, and Sport. In addition, the newly-redesigned body shape allows the Elantra GT to be aerodynamic, with a coefficient drag of .30.

The inside of the 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT is more spacious than ever, beating most other vehicles in its class with 119 cubic feet of total cabin volume, and features a dashboard that is contemporary and elegant in its simplicity. Storage is optimized thanks to versatile seating; the rear seats can be folded down to achieve a whopping 51 cubic feet of cargo space. Additionally, a standard cooled glove compartment, center-console storage tray, and an overhead sunglass holder provide alternate storage.

The Hyundai Elantra GT comes standard with an audio system that comes with auxiliary input and USB jacks, so drivers can easily hook up and sync their smartphones’ music libraries. In addition, the Tech package offers an available audio system with HD radio and a screen that displays song information alongside weather, traffic, and emergency alerts, as well as an available navigation system with a rearview camera.

The Hyundai Elantra GT features a more rigid body structure crafted from high tensile steel to make it stronger than ever. The hatchback is also equipped with seven airbags, including an airbag for the driver’s knee. More advanced safety systems include Electronic Brake-force distribution, Brake Assist, Stability Management with traction and stability control, and an Auto Defogging System that uses sensors to detect windshield humidity. The rearview camera is optional, but all other safety features offered by the Elantra GT come standard.
