If you think Hyundai’s vehicle lineup is mild and predictable, you haven’t seen the bizarre Veloster. This coupe combines the look of a utility hatchback with the soul of a sports vehicle.

This two-door model comes in four configurations for the 2016 model year: base, Turbo, Turbo R-Spec, and Rally Edition.

What’s New for the 2016 Hyundai Veloster?

For the 2016 model year, the Hyundai Veloster underwent significant design changes, including a different hood without vents and the addition of the brand’s hexagonal (open-mouthed) grille. The base edition gets new 17-inch alloy wheels while 18-inch wheels are available for the turbo-fied trims.

New additional perks are available this year, such as black bolster seats with yellow inserts, new exterior colors, and a revised 7.0-inch color infotainment/navigation touchscreen. There’s also a limited-run Rally Edition which premiered at the Chicago Auto Show this year.

The most uniquely-designed model in Hyundai’s lineup is known for its big rear end and highly-positioned hatchback door. The front end features Hyundai’s signature hexagonal grille and cat-eye headlights. While not everyone may be a fan of the bulky, aggressive hatchback coupe design, the Veloster has its share of fans who appreciate its unorthodox appearance.

One look at the inside of the Veloster, and you’ll recognize that the coupe is designed for two people rather than four. While the legroom is amble for front-row passengers, the back seats a tight squeeze. Thus, most of the time you’ll probably keep the seats flipped down to take advantage of the expandable storage space.
