All-new 2016 Kia Optima midsize sedan rendering

Kia has announced that the redesigned 2016 Kia Optima will debut April 1st at the 2015 New York Auto Show. In advance of the new midsize sedan’s premiere, the Korean automaker has also released two Optima teaser sketches that appear to be pretty damn promising.

Who knows how closely the actual car will resemble this ultra-sleek and modern illustration, but we’d like to think that Kia’s not trying to catfish us here.

The company’s rather brief statement about the 2016 Optima reveals only that it’s a “passionately designed and obsessively crafted all-new version of [the] popular midsize sedan.”

The Kia Sportspace concept that debuted in Geneva was said to be a preview of what was in store for the upcoming Optima, and the similarities are indeed noticeable. But if anything, these sketches showcase a design that’s even bolder than that of the Sportspace, and it’s highly unusual for a production model to look more revolutionary than a concept.

Still, we’re not complaining. In fact, probably the only criticisms we’ll have to offer will be if the 2016 Kia Optima fails to look as good in the flesh sheetmetal as it does in these preliminary drawings.
