2016 Kia Sorento UK Sales See Significant Increase
It has been a few years since Kia has gained a strong foothold in the American market, thanks to the introduction of the funky, fresh Kia Soul. Now, the South Korean carmaker is looking to become a big name in the United Kingdom, another big global market. Instead of making a name for itself with the Soul, though, this time Kia is putting its best foot forward in the UK with a surprising model—the all-new Kia Sorento.
In the UK market, the trend tends to lean towards more compact cars. Because of this trend, Kia predicted the Sorento would sell less than 1,000 units when it launched on April 1st of this year. Actual Sorento sales, though, surpassed the carmaker’s expectations, reaching a total of 1,280 units.
An even bigger surprise is that of these 1,280 units, 40% of the sales were for the top-spec Sorento KX-4, which costs £41,600—the equivalent of about $65,000. This means Sorento buyers are bucking trends left and right.
Kia just recently hit the 10 million mark for SUVs sold globally, so it comes as no surprise that the all-new Sorento has made an impression in the UK market. With a svelte silhouette and plenty of features, the Sorento is sure to continue appealing to this market for the time being.
