It’s been over an entire month since Mazda has teased the world with vague announcements for the 2016 MX-5. With the September 3 debut date drawing near, Mazda decided to rekindle the excitement by posting a new photograph of the much-beloved roadster to their Facebook page… More appropriately, a photograph of a fully-clothed MX-5.

Draped in a form-fitting silk overlay (a fittingly-chosen shade of dodger blue), Mazda hopes to encourage easily-excitable automotive fanboys to chant, “Take it off! Take it off!” The picture might not show much, but the enticing curves of the body, the aesthetic appeal of the signature Miata form, leaks through the fabric. You just can’t help but gaze longingly at that voluptuous fender… or that perky side view mirror…

The 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata: The Slowly-Increasing Buzz

We’ve been following the rumors and reports of the soon-to-debut new Miata for months, including the official announcement of its September 3, 2014 worldwide debut from Monterey, California. Speculation abounds concerning the re-designed new model, not just the exotic frame or the heavily-publicized chassis. It’s an awful lot of hype to satisfy, considering the marketing drive behind the MX-5’s 25th anniversary.

Hopefully, with the hype Mazda is giving for the “revolutionized” design of the Miata, they electrify the world with more than an imitation of a  BMW roadster with more arcs and a lengthy front-end. If nothing else, Mazda reports that the unveiling will be followed by a live concert with special guests. That’s comforting.

Unfortunately, the world will have to wait for September 3 for the MX-5 to bare it all. Check back with The News Wheel after Labor Day weekend for updates on the big revelation.
