2016 MINI Convertible Exterior

The MINI Convertible comes in two trim levels, the entry-level Cooper and the more upscale Cooper S. Both trims have the sporty, fun, but compact appearance signature to the MINI brand name, with recognizable rounded headlamps that have become so closely associated with the lineup. Both trims offer the Three-in-One soft top, which allow for drivers to put the top up, down, or to leave it partially up in a configuration that appears similar to a panoramic sunroof. Heated and power mirrors, heated washer jets, rain-sensing automatic headlights, and speed-sensitive wipers all come standard on the base trim level, while the Cooper S offers 16-inch Loop Spoke wheels and center-mounted tailpipes.

2016 MINI Convertible Performance

Both the 2016 MINI Convertible Cooper and the Cooper S come with the option of a manual or automatic transmission, both six-speed. The Cooper pairs one of two transmissions of your choice with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine unique to the MINI brand. This turbocharged, TwinPower engine is capable of 134 horsepower and can go from 0 to 60 in 8.2 seconds. In contrast, the Cooper S comes with both the standard manual or automatic gearbox options, but offers a third option, another six-speed automatic transmission with shifter paddles and tuned for a sportier performance. In addition, the Cooper S comes standard with an upgraded 189-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder MINI TwinPower Turbo engine, with a 0-to-60 rating of 6.7 seconds.

Both models sit on the MacPherson strut and multi-link suspension, which has been specially tuned for added responsiveness and maneuverability. Plus, the MINI Convertible offers the option to drive in one of three driving modes: Sport, Green, or Mid. The Sport allows for a more fun, enjoyable driving experience, while Green better conserves fuel, and Mid is a balanced in-between option that combines the best of the other two driving modes.
