What’s New for the 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer

There are a lot of changes for the 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer. The performance-oriented sedan gets an updated continuously variable transmission (CVT) and revised front-end styling, which includes standard LED running lights. All models now come with four-wheel disc brakes, automatic climate control, Fuse voice controls, and a redesigned center console that has a USB port. The base ES also gets alloy wheels, foglights, and a color driver information display. There are also a variety of optional features and a brand-new trim level in the SEL.

The 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer is offered in four trim levels: ES, SE, SEL, and GT.

The 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer offers consumer the sporty styling they want, all at an affordable price. Mitsubishi has outfitted the Lancer with an all-new front end that is highlighted by a chrome grille surround and a honeycomb grille. Its angular body lines give the Lancer a muscular look, hinting at its performance. The sedan’s sporty look is topped off by a spoiler, which makes it look like it belongs out on the track.

2016 Mitsubishi Lancer Performance

There are two powertrain options for the 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine powers the ES trim, producing 148 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. The ES also comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission, though a CVT is optional.

For the rest of the Lancer lineup, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine (optional on the ES) comes standard, which generates 168 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque. The SE and SEL come standard with the CVT and all-wheel drive, while the GT gets a five-speed manual and standard front-wheel drive. An optional CVT is also available for the GT.

When outfitted with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder, the Lancer has an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 30 mpg combined with the CVT and 28 mpg combined with the five-speed manual. The 2.4-liter engine has a rating of 26 mpg combined with the CVT and all-wheel drive combination. For the GT with the 2.4-liter engine and the manual transmission, fuel economy comes in at 25 mpg combined, and 27 mpg combined with the CVT.

The 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer’s interior puts the driver first, offering gauges and controls that are laid out to make driving easier. In government crash tests, the Mitsubishi Lancer received an overall crash protection score of four out of five stars. It was awarded the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s top score of “Good” in moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side impact, and roof-strength crash tests. It also received the second highest “Acceptable rating” in the IIHS competitive small-overlap frontal-offset test.
