The 2016 Subaru WRX is a Top Safety Pick+

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has wrapped up testing with the all-new 2016 Subaru WRX. As anticipated, the WRX earned the Top Safety Pick+ distinction, when equipped with Subaru’s innovative EyeSight driver assistance technology.

Without EyeSight, the 2016 WRX is still a Top Safety Pick. EyeSight does not yet come standard on all trims; instead, it is available as part of an optional package for the WRX, which also includes a navigation system, an upgraded sound system, and a few other technological advances.

The WRX managed a “good” (IIHS’s best grade) in all five of the crash tests doled out by the institute. It also earned a “superior” for its optional front-crash prevention system, which a car must have to receive the “plus” distinction. EyeSight, of course, is that front-crash prevention system.

Subaru EyeSight adds Steering-Responsive Fog Lights for 2016. The system also includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Braking, Blind-Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. Also for 2016, the WRX receives Subaru’s STARLINK system, and Subaru is giving the Series.HyperBlue treatment to 700 WRX STI models. These will be priced at $38,995, plus destination and delivery.
