Volvo XC90 Earns Motor Trend SUV of the Year Award
For the second time in its history, the Volvo XC90 has been named SUV of the Year by Motor Trend.
The SUV of the Year competition was open to all-new or significantly upgraded vehicles that were released in the 12 months since November 1, 2014.
Editorial staff members from Motor Trend were the judges who decided the XC90 should be named the SUV of the Year winner, after witnessing how it performed during three rounds of rigorous testing, which examined the vehicle’s braking, handling, and acceleration, among other elements of the vehicle.
The 2016 XC90 marked the debut of Volvo’s “Scalable Product Architecture”, which Volvo will use for more vehicles in the future.
The 2016 Volvo XC90 comes with a turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder engine, as well as an eight-speed automatic transmission, which combine to create 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, the all-new Volvo XC90 earned a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
“Everyone at Volvo Cars is exceptionally proud to win the Motor Trend SUV of the Year award,” said Lex Kerssemakers, president and CEO of Volvo Cars of North America. “The all-new XC90 is a strong indicator of things to come at Volvo.”
