2017 BMW ALPINA B7 xDrive

Alpina is a legendary performance car manufacturer in Germany, but if you look at its lineup, you will notice something very familiar about the vehicles. This would be because the entire line is based off of BMW production vehicles. Alpina is called an auto manufacturer, instead of an after-market parts producer, because it does not embellish cars after they are assembled. Instead it chooses to build its own special engines and performance parts at the Alpina facility and then send them to BMW to be included in the car’s original build.

The 2016 BMW 7 Series was completely redesigned for this model year, and it represents the peak of luxury in the BMW brand. To match its BMW counterpart, the 2017 BMW Alpina B7 xDrive was revealed this week ahead of its appearance at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show. This is the third generation of Alpina vehicles to be based off of the BMW 7 Series, and it takes the original model’s power to the next level.

The BMW Alpina B7 xDrive’s heart is a 4.4-liter, eight-cylinder engine with twin-turbo charging, gasoline direct injection and Valvetronic that can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.6 seconds and reach top speeds of 193 mph. According to BMW, the engine will achieve 590 lb-ft of torque and 600 bHP.

Alpina engineers have also been hard at work to add special calibration to the suspension and chassis technology, adding Integral Active Steering that makes maneuvering the larger BMW Alpina B7 xDrive feel as nimble as a much smaller sports car. This is achieved by allowing the rear wheels to actively steer up to three degrees at lower speeds. The added Sport+ Mode not only changes how the vehicle drives by modifying drivetrain and suspension settings, but also lowers ride height by 0.8 of an inch. Lastly, the BMW Alpina B7 xDrive will be equipped with special Michelin tires and a Carbon Core body.

We can’t wait to see the 2017 BMW Alpina B7 xDrive in person.
