The 2017 Buick Encore: probably this, but with a different face

Opel has unveiled its next-generation Mokka X crossover ahead of its world premiere in Geneva, leaving many to assume that it represents the new look of the best-selling Buick Encore. Some confirmation from a Buick spokesperson makes that possibly seem more like probability.

According to Autoblog, Buick spokesman Stuart Fowle confirmed the appearance of the new Encore at next month’s New York Auto Show, which takes place weeks after the Mokka makes its debut at Geneva Motor Show.

“While we have no additional details to announce, we’re excited to confirm that media and customers will see the new 2017 Encore at next month’s New York Auto Show,” Fowles confirmed in a statement. “The Encore joins the Cascada convertible, Envision crossover, and LaCrosse sedan as the fourth new product arriving in Buick showrooms this year,”

Buick will likely borrow quite a bit stylistically from the Mokka X, though indications are that its face will more closely match that of the 2017 LaCrosse sedan revealed earlier this year. It is uncertain at this point if General Motors will make any significant changes to Encore’s engine offering, but it would likely retain the 138-horsepower Ecotec 1.4-liter turbo-four that it has relied on since its launch.
