2017 Chevrolet Bolt

The Chevrolet Bolt, despite only even being on dealership lots in California and Oregon, has already raked in oodles of awards, and now adds one more prestigious title to its name: the Detroit Free Press Car of the Year.

The choice was based on the fact that the Chevrolet Bolt is, as the Detroit Free Press calls it, a “game-changer.”

“The Bolt could — should — be one of the rare vehicles that causes people to reconsider how they think about transportation,” the award announcement read. It then went on to talk about how the Bolt is the first of its kind, as the first affordable electric vehicle to be available with more than 200 miles of range with a roomy interior and a starting MSRP of just under $30,000 after incentives (while they last, of course).

In addition, the editors cited the Bolt’s use by General Motors to further driving technology: “A fleet of self-driving Bolts will also test that revolutionary technology on public roads across the country.”

Due to those attributes, the editors feel that Bolt will change the very direction of the auto industry.

Of course, that would be worth nothing if it’s a bad car and nobody buys it, but the Detroit Free Press addressed that concern as well: “Plus, it’s fun to drive, has simple to use controls, advanced features for safety and convenience, and plenty of room for people and cargo.”

Sounds like a winner to me.
