[REPORT] 2017 Chevy Bolt to Boast 235-Mile Range
There seems to be a lot of news today concerning the efficiency of upcoming Chevrolet models. First, the EPA confirmed that the Chevy Cruze will be able to achieve 35 mpg combined, and now comes the (unsubstantiated) report that the 2017 Bolt will have a 235-mile range.
At the 1:29 mark in this new Nissan LEAF-Chevy Bolt comparison video, The Fast Lane Car’s Roman Mica talks about getting to test drive the new Bolt in a parking lot at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
“The biggest difference [between the Bolt and LEAF], of course, is the Bolt, according to Chevy, has a range of 235 miles,” Mica says, “which basically doubles [the LEAF].”

Later on in the video, Chevy Marketing Director Steve Majoros talks about the how the 2017 Chevy Bolt has “cracked the code” of combining both superior mileage and range in an electric car, saying, “over 200 miles is what we forecast.”
So Majoros is clearly being deliberately vague about the exact range of the new Bolt, but did some other Chevy executive let the actual number slip? Or did Mica mishear or misremember what he was told at CES?
We can’t be sure at the moment, but if true, the Bolt would have a better range than the 234-mile estimated 2016 Tesla Model S, and be just five miles short of the Tesla Model S 70D. Not bad for an EV that should cost less than $30,000 after tax incentives.
