Today Chevrolet introduced the updated 2017 Sonic, which will have a more formal debut at next week’s 2016 New York Auto Show. The new edition features a refreshed exterior with new LED signature lighting and tech advancements that include a new MyLink system with segment-exclusive Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

The 2017 Chevy Sonic will go on sale this fall, with the hatchback offered in LT and Premier trims, both of which are RS models. An RS package will be optional for the Sonic sedan, which is available in LS, LT, and Premiere grades.

Stylistically, the biggest change from the 2016 Sonic is the sportier face, which now features a much narrower upper grille and a larger lower grille, flanked by standard projector-beam headlamps and available LED daytime running lamps. The rear fascia has also been updated.

“The new styling and features of the 2017 Sonic reinforce its position as a fun, efficient small car with leading technology – all at an affordable price,” said Chevy marketing director Steve Majoros. “This is an important segment for Chevrolet, as we really have an opportunity to introduce ourselves to new buyers and show them what we’re all about.”

Along with the seven-inch MyLink touchscreen, the 2017 Chevy Sonic adds heated seats, a heated steering wheel, keyless opening, push-button start, and the segment’s first power driver’s seat. Orange Burst Metallic, Brimstone, Cajun Red Tintcoat, and Arctic Blue Metallic are the four new exterior color options for 2017.

The standard 1.8-liter four-cylinder and 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder return unchanged from last year, as do the 15-, 16-, and 17-inch wheel options.
