2017 Chrysler Pacifica SilhouetteThe 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is one step closer towards being named the North American Car/SUV of the Year. Chrysler’s brand-new minivan recently made the semi-final cut for the prestigious award, which will be announced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Being considered for this well-known award is a huge coup for the minivan. The 2017 Pacifica debuted last year at the North American International Auto Show, quickly establishing itself as the go-to model in the minivan segment. Since its debut, it has raked in awards, including receiving the highest possible rating of Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety—making it the only minivan to have done so.

The Pacifica offers more than 100 standard and optional safety and security features, along with an available Uconnect Theater option that provides the rear passengers with two 10-inch screens that play DVDs.

Other nominees for the SUV/Utility vehicle category include the Audi Q7, Cadillac XT5, Buick Envision, GMC Acadia, Infiniti QX30, Kia Sportage, Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, Mazda CX-9, and Nissan Armada. The Pacifica is not only the lone model from the minivan segment up for the award, but also the only Fiat Chrysler product in the running.

To be considered for this industry award, vehicles must be either brand-new or substantially changed for the 2017 model year. The award also rules out exotic brand, since the eligible vehicles must also be popular in the industry.

The winners of the North American Car/SUV of the Year awards will be announced on January 9th, 2017 during the auto show in Detroit.
