Each year, Cars.com hosts the Best of 2017 award show during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The categories for the show include the overall Best of 2017, Best Pickup Truck of 2017, Eco-Friendly Car of the Year, Family Car of the Year, Luxury Car of the Year, and Play Car of the Year. Nominees of the awards must be all-new models or completely redesigned for that year and are evaluated on the following criteria: quality, innovation, and value.

How the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider won

This year, the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider was dubbed the Best New Convertible by Cars.com and is in contention for the overall Best of 2017 award. The editors at Cars.com gushed over the tiny topless wonder, saying, “Look at this thing: It’s pretty. Next, drop the top, rev the engine, listen to the sweet 1.4-liter engine, find a twisty road and see if your cares disappear with the wind. We’re betting they will, and that’s why the Fiat 124 Spider is our Best New Convertible of 2017.”

While some have been criticizing the new 124 Spider for its uncanny visual similarities to the Mazda Miata, Cars.com cleverly pointed out that, “We’d remind those folks that the genetic difference between individual humans is only 0.1 percent, then point to the recent election to demonstrate how significant small differences can be.”

Well put, Cars.com.

What’s so great about it?

The all-new 2017 Fiat 124 Spider features that classic Italian styling you’d expect from Fiat with the advancements and performance prowess of today’s technology, all while paying homage to the original 1966 Fiat 124 Sports Spider.

Inside the lower Classica and Lusso trims of the new 124 Spider is a 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine that pumps out 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Upgrade to the Abarth trim and you’ll get an increase in horsepower and a standard Sport Mode Selector.

With reasonable pricing and alluring style, it’s no wonder Cars.com has this Best New Convertible of 2017 up for their biggest award of the year!
