2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty

If you are anxiously awaiting the release of the aluminum-bodied 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty, then today is your lucky day. According to Automotive News, Ford President of the Americas Joe Hinrichs confirmed this week that the Super Duty has begun shipping from the automaker’s Kentucky Truck Plant in Lexington.

“This is one of the strongest products in our portfolio,” Hinrichs said Tuesday at a JPMorgan Chase & Co. conference in New York. “This is the first all-new Super Duty in 18 years.”

Ford Truck Rumors: Is an F-150 diesel option on the horizon?

He is wrong about neither of those things. First revealed in September of last year, Ford confirmed that the next generation of Super Duty would follow in the tire tracks of the F-150 by switching to aluminum-alloy body panels and a fully-boxed frame built from 95% high-strength steel, cutting upwards of 350 pounds from the previous generation’s curb weight in the process.

In the 11 months since, Ford has announced a number of improvements and advancements that will make the new Super Duty the toughest, strongest, and most intelligent ever built. This includes, among other things, Trailer Reverse Guidance technology, class-exclusive Adaptive Cruise Control, vinyl flooring available at the King Ranch and Platinum trim levels, and some of the fanciest cup holders you are likely to ever see.

Last month, Ford also confirmed that the 2017 Super Duty will offer best-in-class gasoline and diesel torque at 430 lb-ft of torque and 925 lb-ft of torque, respectively. It will also offer best-in-class payload (7,630 pounds), best-in-class diesel horsepower (440 horsepower), best-in-class conventional towing (21,000 pounds), best-in-class fifth-wheel towing (27,500 pounds), and best-in-class maximum gooseneck towing (32,500 pounds).

Earlier this week, a new variant was announced for the Super Duty: the STX trim, which adds a distinct bright chrome grille, chrome front and rear step bumpers, exclusive aluminum wheels, AM/FM stereo with single CD/MP3 player, and steering wheel-mounted cruise control.
