2017 Honda Ridgeline

Honda continues to put the rest of the truck world to shame with its 2017 Ridgeline.

Not only did the Ridgeline blow away the Silverado and F-150 in the old “rock drop” test, but now the all-new model has become the first and only 2017 pickup truck of any size to earn a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

“The Ridgeline was named a Top Safety Pick + because it had good-rated headlights, available front crash prevention system with automatic breaking and also a good rating in the small overlap frontal crash test,” IIHS spokesman Russ Rader told Trucks.com.

The Ridgeline with Honda Sensing and LED headlights becomes the first pickup but the third Honda to receive a Top Safety Pick+ for the 2017 model year. The brand’s other two Top Safety Pick+ winners include the Accord Sedan with Honda Sensing and projector beam halogen headlights and the Pilot with Honda Sensing and LED headlights.

Honda models that earned Top Safety Pick designations include the Accord Coupe with Honda Sensing, the Civic Coupe with Honda Sensing, and the Civic Sedan with Honda Sensing.

The Honda Sensing suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies includes features like Collision Mitigation Braking System, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning and more. There are currently over 300,000 Honda Sensing-equipped vehicles on US roads today.

“We are excited Ridgeline is the first and only pickup truck with the highest safety honor from IIHS,” Honda confirmed in a statement. “The Ridgeline, like all Honda models, are engineered with safety in mind, including addressing the new stringent IIHS requirements.”
