A newcomer to the Hyundai lineup, the Ioniq is a monumental step forward for the brand. Aimed at environmentally-conscious drivers, Hyundai’s Ioniq is actually a groundbreaking trio of vehicles–Hybrid, Electric, or Plug-in versions–all available based on the same model.

The all-electric version of the Ioniq forgoes gasoline and uses a battery-powered electric engine for a zero-emission ride.

What’s New for the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric?

The Hyundai Ioniq Electric is a brand new vehicle for 2017. This is its first year available on the market. Currently, it is only sold in California due to the state’s charging station infrastructure, but the brand has plans to eventually broaden its availability as more states embrace all-electric transportation.

The 2017 Ioniq Electric is available in two trims: the base level and the Limited trim.

The 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric deftly blends the brand’s underlying Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy with a fresh, futuristic edge for an award-winning appearance. While its sloped A-pillar, balanced body lines, and raised rear end all mimic Hyundai’s recognizable design points, the blacked-out rear bumper and solid front grille are unique to the Ioniq.

Body color options for the Ioniq are limited. Standard colors like Ceramic White and Black Noir Pearl look great on the 2017 Ioniq Electric, while vivid hues like Electric Blue Metallic and Symphony Air Silver add extra pizzazz.

2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric Efficiency

Since the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric doesn’t run on gasoline/petrol like most automobiles do, it doesn’t carry a standard fuel efficiency rate. However, on a single charge, the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric can travel up to 124 miles @ 128 MPGe. That EPA estimate is based on a fully-charged battery pack with 28.0 kWh capacity. The actual range will vary based on driving habits, battery condition, and such.

The 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric is design to be particularly comfortable for the driver. Whether seated on cloth or leather materials, the driver will appreciate the plush contouring and firm lumbar support–especially with the adjustable positioning. Controls are within reach of the driver, both on the steering wheel and center console (get a 360° inside look).

The Ioniq’s cargo volume of 23.8 cubic feet and passenger volume of 96.2 cubic feet exceed most of its competitors’ cramped cabin sizes, though the Ioniq is noted for having a tight back seat and low ceiling. Road noise won’t be a problem with the Ioniq Electric’s stellar insulation and noise cancellation.
