The superb safety technology of the 2017 Kia Forte just secured it a place on the IIHS’s Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+) list. The rating applies to all 2017 Forte cars built after March 2017 that are equipped with the optional front crash prevention feature and High Intensity Discharge (HID) Dynamic Bending Light headlights.

In order to achieve this noteworthy award, cars have to excel five crash tests featuring different zones on the car. They also have to get an “acceptable” or “good” rating in the headlight tests, as well as an “advanced” or “superior” rating for front crash prevention. Though quite a few cars make the Top Safety Pick list, even fewer cars make it onto the more selective Top Safety Pick Plus list.

Orth Hedrick, vice president of product planning with KMA, views the recent award as something welcome but not totally surprising, considering the brand’s top value of consumer safety: “The new distinction of TSP+ rating from the highly-respected IIHS reconfirms the high priority we place on safety for our customers and why Forte remains a favorite in the compact sedan class.”

Some of the safety technology on the 2017 Kia Forte includes advanced options like Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. It even has a Dynamic Bending Light feature, which senses the car’s steering angle and speed then automatically adjusts headlights to maximize light output.

As the 2017 Forte basks in the glory of this recent honor, we commend Kia for continuing its consistent tradition of producing cars with such high safety standards.
