2017 Lincoln Continental

Lincoln has a major hit on its hand with the 2017 Continental sedan, which has caught fire with consumers for everything from its luxurious interior to its surprisingly powerful performance prowess. Because security is every bit as vital for the appeal of a new vehicle, Lincoln put no shortage of effort into boosting the Continental’s active and passive safety features.

Those efforts have paid off in the form of the 2017 Lincoln Continental earning the TOP SAFETY PICK+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) when equipped with optional Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection. As part of the IIHS’ updated criteria, a vehicle must now score ratings of “Good” in five crashworthiness tests and a score of “Advanced” or “Superior” in front crash prevention in order to be named a TOP SAFETY PICK. To become a TOP SAFETY PICK+, a vehicle must maintain those marks and earn a score of “Acceptable” or “Good” for headlights.

The 2017 Lincoln Continental nabbed ratings of “Good” in the small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints and seats crash tests. With the optional Technology Package, which includes Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, the Continental earned a “Superior” score for front crash prevention by meeting NHTSA criteria for forward collision warning and avoiding a collision at speeds of 12 mph and 25 mph.

Earning the extra plus sign for the 2017 Lincoln Continental are optional LED projector headlamps—available on the Reserve trim with Luxury package and with the Luxury and Climate package for added high-beam assist—which scored ratings of “Good.”
