2016 Mazda6 in the desert

Mazda has announced that the 2017 Mazda6 will start at $21,945, a $450 increase from the previous model. For that amount, customers get a good chunk of value.

For starters, note that the increase is for the base Sport manual only, as the price for the automatic remains unchanged. The manual now gets the same Mazda Connect 7.0-inch touchscreen that was already standard on the automatic, and both the manual and the automatic are receiving G-Vectoring Control, which adjusts torque delivery to the front wheels when turning to improve the car’s cornering responsiveness. In addition, both get standard 17-inch wheels, push-button ignition, and a rearview camera.

Customers can enjoy even more value at higher trims. For only a $250 price bump, the Touring model gets Smart City brake support, automatic headlamps, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Meanwhile, the Grand Touring model acquires standard traffic-sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beams, and Smart City brake support as well, for just an extra $500 compared to the 2016 model.

As before, buyers can also upgrade their vehicle with the Touring Bose/Moonroof/Satellite Radio Package ($1,325) as well as with the Touring Premium Package ($1,245) and the Grand Touring Premium Package ($2,500).

All things told, a fully-loaded 2017 Mazda6 will set customers back $33,195, which gives it a price range that’s completely in line with the full-size family sedan competition, though it’s arguably the best-looking of the lot, the most enjoyable to drive, and among the better-equipped.

Still, don’t make a decision before test-driving it when it goes on sale this September!
