2017 Nissan Altima Overview

Decrease Font Size Increase Font Size Text Size Print This Page

Last year, the Nissan Altima was one of the 10 best-selling vehicles in the United States with a total of 333,398 units moved. Nissan was able to sell that many Altima midsize sedans because this model has a strong reputation for reliability, provides respectable fuel economy, and maintains strong resale values. In addition, the Nissan Altima offers a capable V6 engine that increases the vehicle’s acceleration and passing abilities on the highway. The 2017 Nissan Altima competes for sales with the Mazda6, Honda Accord, and Toyota Camry.

What’s New for the 2017 Nissan Altima?

The 2017 Nissan Altima carries over unchanged from the 2016 model year. However, just a year ago this car received an update to the front fascia and new advanced safety equipment became available, which included automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and forward collision warning.

The 2017 Nissan Altima features a highly regarded exterior design that features distinctive body lines, dual exhaust tips, and a V-shaped grille. Active grille shutters and 16-inch steel wheels also come standard on the new Altima, but for those people craving more flair, they can find it on the 3.5 SR trim. 2017 Nissan Altima Performance

A 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine comes standard in the new Nissan Altima. This base motor is good for 182 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque, which is more than enough for most daily driving needs. However, if you can’t do without at least a V6, then you’ll have to step up to the SR and SL trims because that’s the only two places you’ll find it. The optional 3.5-liter V6 engine is good for 270 horsepower and 251 lb-ft of torque. Both engines come matched with a continuously variable transmission that helps the Altima accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just over six seconds when equipped with the available V6.

2017 Nissan Altima Efficiency

Fuel economy for the 2017 Nissan Altima differs depending on which trim level the buyer selects and what engine is featured in the vehicle. The entry-level Altima with the four-cylinder motor yields an EPA-estimated 27 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway. In contrast, consumers who go with the SR trim will see a dip in efficiency, as that model only provides 26 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. Moreover, when the V6 is featured in the 2017 Altima, fuel economy drops to 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. Every 2017 Altima comes standard with an 18-gallon fuel tank.

The Altima midsize sedan provides seating for five people and comes standard with a four-speaker audio system. Driver and passenger(s) will  enjoy standard comfort features like an air conditioning system and Bluetooth connectivity. The latter feature is important because it can pair your phone with the car’s audio system. This allows the driver to make calls via a speakerphone so they can keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheels. Another unique feature that comes with the Altima is Nissan’s zero-gravity seats that were motivated by NASA and provide comfortable seating for both large and small people. In addition, the 2017 Nissan Altima provides 15.4 cubic feet of cargo space in its trunk.
