Buick has announced a round of upgrades coming to the LaCrosse for the 2018 model year. The foremost of these updates is the addition of eAssist light electrification, which will pair an electric motor with the LaCrosse’s standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder to increase city fuel economy by an estimated 19%.

The motor will be powered by an advanced 24-cell air-cooled 0.45 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that will provide the 2018 Buick LaCrosse with abilities including torque-assisted launch, regenerative braking, and smoother Stop/Start functionality. The latest iteration of Buick eAssist will increase overall torque by 9%, and it will be implemented in such a way that it will not affect the LaCrosse’s trunk space or rear seat fold-down capability.

Buick announced the starting price of the base-level LaCrosse as being $30,490.

“Executing innovative technologies in an approachable and meaningful way is core to Buick,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president, Global Buick and GMC. “By adding the eAssist system to the LaCrosse, our technology flagship, we are making electrification accessible to our customers as we chart our course to the future of mobility.”

In addition to the announcement of eAssist for the four-cylinder, Buick revealed that models equipped with the 3.6-liter V6 will be offered with GM’s all-new nine-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, Buick’s all-wheel drivetrain will be available at the Essence trim level.

Perhaps most exciting of all, Buick revealed three new exterior hues available for the 2018 model year: Satin Steel Metallic, Dark Slate Metallic, and Red Quartz Tintcoat. The 2018 Buick LaCrosse is set to go on sale beginning this fall.
