2018 Buick Regal Sportback

On Wednesday, Buick unveiled the 2018 Regal GS, ending the brief period of speculation created by its decision to publish a blurb about its 310-horsepower V6 in its own owner magazine ahead of a proper reveal. Seemingly hoping to prevent any further speculation as to other facets of the Regal GS, Buick decided that it would also price the high-performance Sportback variant at $39,990 after destination fees. In so doing, Buick must have figured what the hey, let’s just price the whole shebang.

And so Buick did! It was revealed that the 2018 Regal Sportback, with its standard 2.0-liter turbo-four, will start at $25,915 with destination fees. This puts the revamped Regal at a starting price $2,000 lower than the 2017 Regal, which will likely be of some help in drawing in drivers as they increasingly turn away from sedans in favor of crossovers and pickup trucks.

2018 Buick Regal TourX

Slotting more in between the sedan and the crossover is the 2018 Buick Regal TourX, a first-ever Buickification of the Opel Insignia wagon that—despite being a wagon—brand VP Duncan Aldred calls “a crossover in the truest sense of the word.” While that particular association is no doubt part of a plan to drive up Regal sales by appealing to crossover shoppers, it will take longer to pay off than originally anticipated.

It was revealed that the TourX will not arrive at dealerships until February 2018, putting it behind Sportback models and possibly the Regal GS’s launch window. Though interested parties will have longer to wait, they won’t have much more to pay if they prefer the TourX to the Sportback: it boasts a reasonable $29,995 starting price, making it just over $4,000 more than the sedan body style.
