Today at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, Chevrolet introduced the all-new 2018 Traverse and next-generation Equinox Turbo-Diesel.

“One of the hottest segments in Canada continues to be crossovers and SUVs. With the addition of Traverse and Equinox, Chevrolet’s portfolio is well positioned to delight our Canadian customers,” said Steve Carlisle, president and managing director of GM Canada. “From the game-changing and award-winning Bolt EV to the full-size Suburban, no one has a broader, fresher lineup of crossovers and SUVs to meet the demands of Canadian customers.”

The Traverse and Equinox represent the third and fourth all-new or updated SUVs from Chevrolet released within a year, joining the redesigned Trax and the all-electric Bolt EV.

“Market trends in Canada tell us that two-thirds of all customer purchases are SUVs and pickup trucks. Last year we shook up the truck market with the new mid-sized Colorado and we’ve reinvigorated our car lineup with Volt, Cruze and Malibu,” said Laura Pacey, brand director for Chevrolet Canada.  “We’re applying that same customer focus to grow our crossover and SUV business with the addition of the all-new Traverse and next-gen Equinox.”

The all-new Traverse has been completely redesigned, offering new styling and technologies, with highlights including best-in-class third-row legroom, maximum cargo room and passenger volume, and an expanded list of active safety features.

The Equinox 1.6-liter turbo-diesel yields a GM-estimated 136 horsepower, 236 ft-lb of torque, and an estimated highway mileage as low as 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres (which is how are neighbors to the north measure gas—down here in the states, we’d just say 1.5 gallons per 62 miles).

The Equinox Diesel joins the Cruze, Colorado, and Silverado HD in Chevy’s ever-expanding diesel portfolio.
