2018 Conservation and Environmental Grants China Awards

Ford this week celebrated the accomplishments and achievements of 11 non-governmental organizations at its annual Conservation and Environmental Grants China Awards. Taking place at the Beijing LAANG Art Center from Dec. 3-4, the 2018 Ford CEGC Awards honored groups committed to bringing about positive change at a community level and on a global scale.

Among the big winners at this year’s CEGC Awards is Morgan Xia, founder of the Shenzhen “Dive for Love” project, which seeks to curb the decline of coral reefs in our planet’s oceans. Xia was honored with the CEGC Annual Award and a prize of approximately $72,650 USD (RMB 500,000). He says that the money will be used to train divers with the skills necessary to help preserve coral reefs and improve the oceanic ecosystem.

Lori Arpin, vice president of communications for Ford Asia Pacific, used the occasion to echo the sentiment that the automaker will do its part to help make the world a cleaner and safer place, saying, “Ford will continue to develop and use sustainable materials and eco-friendly energy to contribute to China’s environmental movement.”

The 2018 Ford CEGC Awards also saw the appointment of singers Su Xing and Ma Tiao to the role of CEGC ambassadors. It is Ford’s hope that using influencers of public opinion to reiterate the importance of environmental issues will help drive the conversation toward sustainability and responsibility.

Since 2000, the Conservation and Environmental Grants China has awarded more than $3.5 million USD to 421 environmental groups in China, making it the longest-standing program of its kind as well as the most widely trusted.
