2018 Ford Expedition Rated at Best-in-Class 9,300 Pounds Max Towing
Ford revealed its new 2018 Expedition earlier this year, and it was immediately clear that the next-gen SUV would be a beast with regards to performance. This, in no small part, could be gleaned from news that it would receive Ford’s new 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine mated to a 10-speed automatic, available Intelligent 4WD, and Ford’s innovative Terrain Management System.
Adding to that warranted speculation, Ford revealed that the Expedition will be the recipient of class-exclusive Pro Trailer Backup Assist; given a Ford claim that more than half of all current Expedition customers use their vehicles for towing with upwards of 15% doing so weekly or monthly, this should prove a major selling point.
So should the Expedition’s newly-announced towing capacity of up to 9,300 pounds, good enough to earn it the title of best in class. Tested using the Society of Automotive Engineers’ J2807 standard, the 2018 Ford Expedition stands apart from other full-size SUVs even more than it did with industry-first SlingPlayer integration and Ford’s first-ever utilization of wireless charging.
Oh, and you’ll especially like the Expedition if you have a boat. Do you have a boat? Well then you are probably gonna love the Expedition, because it can haul boats like nobody’s business.
“Warmer weather has families longing for outdoor adventures, and the all-new Expedition provides generous space, connectivity, and smart new technology for the trip,” said Craig Patterson, Ford SUV marketing manager. “With best-in-class towing capability of 9,300 pounds and available Pro Trailer Backup Assist, you can spend more time on the water rather than struggling to back up and launch your boat.”
Of course, we’re still a ways from the 2018 Expedition’s launch, so you have time to start saving up for 1) an Expedition 2) a boat.
