What’s New for the 2018 Ford Explorer?

While the exterior stature of the Ford Explorer is largely unchanged for 2018, there are a few interior upgrades to make note of. For example, a 4G modem with high-speed Wi-Fi is now available on the Explorer, as well as remote start, stop, lock, unlock, and location services via the FordPass app.

The new Explorer holds a similar stance to the 2017 model year. It comes with standard 18-inch wheels, with options for 20-inch wheels on upper trim levels. The Explorer also offers LED tail lamps, LED fog lamps, LED low-beam headlamps.

The 2018 Ford Explorer is available in 10 exterior colors: Ruby Red, Magnetic, Ingot Silver, White Platinum, Oxford White, Shadow Black, Blue, Burgundy Velvet, Cinnamon Glaze, and Platinum Dune.

2018 Ford Explorer Performance

The Ford Explorer is well-equipped with a standard 3.5-liter Ti-VCT V6 engine. The engine is paired to a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, producing 290 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque. The Limited comes with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline four-cylinder engine; paired to the same six-speed transmission, the engine produces 280 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. For the sportiest performance ratings, the well-named Sport, as well as the Platinum, is equipped with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, producing 365 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque.

Efficiency ratings correspond directly to your trim level’s choice of powertrain. The V6 engine earns an estimated 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. The smaller 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine earns 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, while the larger 3.5-liter EcoBoost earns 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.
