After writing about countless 2018 Honda Accord awards throughout the last month, this latest news comes as no real surprise. The all-new, 10th-generation Accord has been named the 2018 North American Car of the Year, marking Honda’s third consecutive North American “of the Year” award after the Ridgeline won last year and the Civic before that.

Since 1994, the North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year awards honor the best vehicles on the continent based on their performance, value, technology, design, innovation, safety, and driver satisfaction. The jury is made up of 60 professional automotive journalists from the United States and Canada who work for various independent magazines, newspapers, industry websites, television, and radio.

The process of choosing the car of the year began in June 2017 and took place over three rounds of voting. Everyone, it seems, is in agreement that Honda knocked it out of the park with the 2018 Accord, which was trailed by the Kia Stinger and Toyota Camry.

“Honda seems to have executed some sort of magic trick—not only is this 10th-generation Accord far sleeker and more decisively styled than its predecessor, it’s somehow roomier inside, too,” said Chris Paukert, a NACTOY juror and managing editor of Road Show by CNET. “Even in low-end trims, it drives well and offers a strong amount of standard equipment.”

The 2018 Honda Accord was completely redesigned from the ground up with a lighter and more rigid body structure, two all-new turbo engines, the first 10-speed automatic to be used in a front-wheel-drive car, and a whole suite of active safety technologies that comes as standard equipment.
