2018 Honda CR-V Exterior

The 2018 Honda CR-V is billed as a sporty SUV, which means it looks like a regular SUV that has been working out a little and wants to show you. Its stance is wide and long, its wheel arches are muscular, and the wheels are fiercely styled. The creases and bulges are nonetheless limited; this is, after all, a family hauler, and it wouldn’t do to have it look too aggressive. Overall, the CR-V is handsome enough that you would take a second look at it on the street were it not for the high probability that the car behind it was a CR-V as well.

The 2018 Honda CR-V is available in the following exterior colors: Sandstorm Metallic, Molten Lava Pearl, Basque Red Pearl II, Obsidian Blue Pearl, Dark Olive Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, Gunmetal Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic, Lunar Silver Metallic, and White Diamond Pearl.

2018 Honda CR-V Performance

Two engines are offered with the 2018 Honda CR-V: a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder rated at 184 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque, and a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder rated at 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque. Both are paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) that comes with a Sport mode for extra responsiveness. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive optional. Both are also rated to tow 1,500 pounds. In other words, when it comes to performance, both engines are almost indistinguishable.

2018 Honda CR-V Efficiency

On the other hand, the 2018 Honda CR-V’s engines are not indistinguishable when it comes to fuel efficiency. While the base 2.4-liter gets an EPA-estimated 26 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined, the turbo 1.5-liter bumps those numbers up to 28 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined. That’s with FWD—with AWD, all figures are reduced by a single mpg.

2018 Honda CR-V Interior

The 2017 model was already one of the most spacious vehicles in its class, yet still the 2018 Honda CR-V offers even more room to its five passengers than ever before. Rear legroom stands at an impressive 40.4 inches while cargo space is a whopping 40 cubic feet, putting the CR-V ahead of major competitors like the Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson, and Ford Escape. And that’s not all: that room is now easier to exploit as well, thanks to 60/40-split rear seats that fold at the simple operation of a lever, and to a two-tier rear cargo area. When it comes to equipment, the CR-V is also very well equipped across all trim levels. Just take a look at the list of features below.

2018 Honda CR-V Safety

Crash test sheets don’t get much better than that of the 2018 Honda CR-V. It aced its government crash tests with a five-star overall safety rating and received top marks in seven of the eight categories tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The only blemish is the “acceptable” rating for headlight visibility, one short of the top score, which earned it a 2018 Top Safety Pick without the coveted “plus.” Notably, the CR-V comes standard with the Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies, which includes adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation, and lane keeping assist.

Standard Safety Features

  • Brake Assist
  • LATCH children’s seat anchoring system
  • LED daytime running lights
  • Side curtain airbags with rollover sensor
  • Anti-lock braking system
  • Vehicle Stability Assist™ with traction control
  • SmartVent® front side airbags
  • Electronic Brake Distribution
  • Multi-angle rearview camera
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System
