Not surprising, the 2018 Kia Rio not only secured a spot on the Foundation’s top 10, it also earned highest marks in the subcompact car category due to its “outstanding combination of fuel efficiency, innovative technology, fun-to-drive character and value,” reports Kia Media.

The Kia Rio is available at three trim levels — LX, S, and EX — and each of the three trims are equipped with a 1.6-liter GDI inline four-cylinder engine. The LX sports a six-speed manual transmission whereas the S and EX trims feature a six-speed automatic transmission with Sportmatic®.  The powertrains in each trim generate 130 horsepower and 119 lb-ft of torque.

The Rio S and EX trims feature a rear camera display, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, Bluetooth® wireless technology with steering-wheel-mounted controls, Siri® Eyes Free, cruise control, and power windows with driver’s one-touch auto-down controls.

Drivers looking for even more advanced infotainment features should choose the EX trim, which features UVO with a seven-inch touchscreen, and Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™ compatibility. The EX trim also comes equipped with the driver assistance technology of Forward Collision Warning System (FCWS) as a standard feature.

“This fourth-generation Rio makes significant improvements over its predecessor in design, technology and passenger comfort, and our latest Hispanic Motor Press Foundation award is a testament to Kia’s unbeatable combination of quality, reliability and value,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president of product planning, Kia Motors America. “Hispanic consumers are savvy shoppers and look for vehicles that check off a number of requirements that consumers look for.”
