The 2018 Kia Sorento has grabbed extremely favorable attention from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), who just lauded the midsize SUV with its most prestigious rating and deemed the 2018 Kia Sorento a Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+).

The impressive rating is specific to the SX Limited trim and the SX trim with Advanced Technology Package of the 2018 Kia Sorento when the models sport the “newly acceptable-rated headlights,” and were assembled after May 2017.

According to Kia, “To qualify for TSP+, the IIHS testing parameters require a vehicle earn ‘good’ ratings in five crashworthiness tests–small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side impact, roof strength and head restraints–as well as an ‘advanced’ or ‘superior’ rating for front crash prevention and an ‘acceptable’ or ‘good’ rating in headlight testing.”

In addition to the new and innovative headlights on the SX Limited trim or the SX trim equipped with the Advanced Technology Package, the 2018 Kia Sorento boasts an extensive list of standard safety features including: Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Traction Control System (TCS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), Ant-Lock Braking System (ABS), Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), Tire-Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Rollover sensor, dual front advanced airbags and seat-mounted side airbags and side curtain airbags in first and second rows.

“Kia’s commitment to building durable, capable vehicles is underscored by Sorento receiving this tremendous safety accolade,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president, product planning, KMA. “The highest possible safety rating from IIHS for Sorento bookends the recent J.D. Power Initial Quality award.”

Drivers have their choice of seven trims of the 2018 Kia Sorento—L, LX, LX V6, EX 2.0T, EX V6, SX, and SX Limited.
