2018 Nissan LEAF Job 1 Smyrna

If you’ve been rubbing your hands together in anticipation of being able to get behind the wheel of the all-new 2018 Nissan LEAF, you’re going to be quite happy to learn that production of the EV has officially gotten underway at Nissan’s Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant, putting it just that much closer to being at dealerships and, eventually, in your drive way.

Also, maybe stop rubbing your hands together. Seriously, if you’ve just been rubbing your hands together since the new LEAF was announced, you’ve probably rubbed your palms raw and need to go to a hospital.

“We’re committed to vehicle electrification and manufacturing in the United States,” said Jeff Younginer, vice president, manufacturing, Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant, Nissan North America, Inc. “With the LEAF’s low starting price and latest suite of Nissan Intelligent Mobility features, we’re excited to ramp up production and bring the LEAF to market next month.”

Nissan has built the US-sold LEAF at Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant since 2013 and has sold more than 114,550 since going on sale in 2011. The new LEAF boasts an MSRP under $30,000, an all-electric range of 150 miles on a single charge, and will be offered in all 50 states from launch.

Production of the Euro-spec LEAF is also underway at Nissan’s Sunderland, UK, assembly plant, as well as at the Nissan Oppama Plant in Yokosuka, Japan.

In addition to a bold new look, the 2018 Nissan LEAF is notable for the inclusion of Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and e-Pedal technology, as well as available ProPILOT Assist technology.
