For the new model year, the 2019 Chevrolet Express Cargo first received a small tweak in paint colors, replacing Shadow Gray Metallic with Graphite Metallic. More importantly, though, it got three new safety features: Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, and an unauthorized-entry theft deterrent system.

When it comes to styling, the Chevrolet Express Cargo goes for the minimalist approach. The body is boxy and utilitarian, allowing a great deal of flexibility in upfitting while offering the greatest interior capacity possible. The Express Cargo comes in two wheelbases, and has no windows on the sides. Side windows and a sliding side door are available as extra options, however.

Performance

2018 Chevrolet Express Passenger

The 2019 Chevrolet Express Cargo can come with one of three possible engines. First among these is a 4.3-liter V6, which comes as standard on every Express Cargo. This engine makes 276 horsepower and 298 lb-ft of torque.

Above that is an available Vortec 6.0-liter V8. This engine is available using either gasoline, compressed natural gas, or liquefied propane gas. It produces 341 horsepower and 373 lb-ft of torque. Finally, there is an available2.8-liter Duramax® turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine, which produces 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.

In the 2500 Express, the van has a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of up to 8,600 pounds, with a 3,323-pound payload capacity. The 3500 Express boosts the GVWR to 9,900 pounds, and the payload capacity to 4,282 pounds.

Efficiency

2018 Express Cargo

Since the Express Cargo is a commercial vehicle, nobody seems particularly inclined to measure its fuel efficiency. Chevrolet lists the fuel economy for the 2019 Express Cargo as “Not Available” while the EPA doesn’t seem to have tested the Express Cargo for fuel economy since 2015. So, all we can really say is that it is likely not hugely efficient, but has a 31-gallon fuel tank.

Interior

Most of the interior of the 2019 Express Cargo consists of cargo space — the extended wheelbase models offer a total of 313.9 cubic feet of volume. Of course, the interior is just as customizable as the exterior, with a number of available upfits and equipment packages. There is even an available five-passenger seating option, the Cargo Crew model.
