2019 Chevrolet Silverado Flowtie

Back in 2014, Chevrolet introduced its “flowtie,” a slight variation on the brand’s classic “bowtie” badge. The flowtie was designed for the Camaro in an effort to increase air flow to the engine to keep it cool. By removing the gold interior of the bowtie badge, engineers were able to send up to three cubic meters of additional air into the engine every minute.

Now it seems Chevrolet is expanding the flowtie to more than just its racing models. The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado chassis cab trucks — including the 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD models — will come with the flowtie badge as well.

These heavy-duty trucks are built for tough jobs. The engines work hard to haul thousands of pounds of cargo, so it’s important to keep the engine cool. The flowtie’s introduction to the truck segment will give an added sporty edge to the models while adding practicality. “The flowtie is an elegant solution,” said Kevin O’Donnell, Chevrolet’s design manager. “It’s going to work on the Silverado exactly the way it does on the Camaro.”

The 2019 Silverado 4500HD/5500HD/6500HD models are brand new for 2019. It holds a strong, muscular stance with an aggressive front end. But its design is also practical, with a sloping hood to give drivers more vision. “Chevy’s designers and engineers were obsessed with making this Silverado the most customer-focused medium-duty truck among its major competitors,” said Ed Peper, GM Fleet’s U.S. vice president. “”This is evident in every design decision.”

The flowtie is an understated, practical, and cool design for the new chassis cab Chevy trucks. The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado will be available later this year.
