2019 Chevy Spark Poised for South Korean Reveal

GM Korea and Chevrolet will release the South Korean version of the 2019 Chevy Spark next week, on May 23rd. This news follows on the heels of the North American version’s reveal.

Although the brand has yet to disclose details about the South Korean version’s potential modifications, rumor has it that it might elaborate on the style tweaks the North American version manifests. The 2019 Spark boasts more streamlined headlights which complement an updated front fascia and broader grille design. It also adds one new amenity to the Driver Confidence Package—Low Speed Forward Automatic Braking—to enhance safety. The powertrain remains the same as the previous model year—a 1.4-liter four-cylinder LV7 engine paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Used Advantages: Benefits of opting for an older vehicle

The imminency of the South Korean version’s reveal contradicts Chevrolet’s recent rumors to retire the Spark in favor of a crossover vehicle in the next few years. But perhaps this latest refresh of the Spark, both in the U.S. and in South Korea, will serve as a last hurrah before the brand discontinues it in the near future.

Whatever the case, we plan on enjoying the Spark for however long we have it. With such superb fuel efficiency—estimated at 39 mpg on the highway—and just enough cargo volume for a weekend getaway—27.2 cubic feet, when the rear seats are folded flat—it’s hard to find a more colorful and fun first car or commuter vehicle at such a great price.

We anticipate more details about the Spark’s reveal in South Korea next week, as we await more news about the brand’s future decision about prolonging or ending the life of this model.
