2019 Honda Insight Production

Honda has begun mass-producing the all-new 2019 Honda Insight at its Indiana and Ohio manufacturing plants, representing the company’s commitment to American industry as well as its increased investment in electrified mobility.

Honda Manufacturing of Indiana (HMIN) will produce all Insight models for the North American market, for which Honda has prepared with a $32.5 million investment. Its advanced powertrain will be built across three Ohio plants, each dedicated to one important part.

The plant in Russells Point, Ohio, will produce the twin electric motor unit, for which Honda invested an additional $29 million. The Marysville plant will make the hybrid battery pack, and the Anna plant will construct the 1.5-liter Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine.

With all parts combined, the Insight’s powertrain is rated at 151 net system horsepower and earns a projected 55 mpg rating in the city. It will be the fifth electrified vehicle Honda launches in the past 18 months, following the three Clarity models and the Accord Hybrid.

To accommodate the Insight’s production, a new 19,200 square-foot expansion was added to HMNI, which will be responsible for the subassembly of the car’s front-end module, including the front frame, radiator, and cooling fan.

“The new Honda Insight exemplifies our growing investment in the production of electrified vehicles in America and our associates in Indiana are proud to play a key role in this initiative,” said Isao Matsuzaki, president of Honda Manufacturing of Indiana. “As the lead plant for Insight production globally, we are committed to delivering the quality and reliability that our customers expect.”
