2019 Honda Odyssey

The 2019 Honda Odyssey is finally on sale and will start at $31,065 including the destination and handling charge, representing just a $100 increase over last year’s base price, though the family-friendly minivan is largely unchanged.

Under the hood is the same trust 3.5-liter V6 producing 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, which uses Variable Cylinder Management to improve fuel efficiency. The EPA estimates it will do 19 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg combined.

The Odyssey is one of the many Honda models now offered with Honda Sensing, a suite of active safety and driver assistive technologies, which is standard on all trims but the very base LX. It includes lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, road departure mitigation, and automatic emergency braking.

Other nifty tech for families are CabinWatch and CabinTalk, which facilitate watching and talking to the kids at the back without having to turn around and look away from the road. Then there’s the rear entertainment system, complete with wireless headphones, which makes it far less likely that parents will need to scold antsy children in the first place.

The Odyssey is also more connected than ever with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support and 4G LTE with built-in Wi-Fi. One cool feature is the Social Playlist, which is basically a virtual family jukebox that lets everyone have a say in what song will be played next.

Ease of use and versatility are a must-have for minivans and Honda delivers on that front with its “Magic Slide” second-row seats, which feature four different seating modes and allows for the center seat to be removed.

The 2019 Honda Odyssey is built almost entirely in the United States. R&D took place in Raymond, Ohio; the V6 engine is made in Lincoln, Albama; and the new 10-speed transmission is exclusively produced in Tallapoosa, Georgia.
