2012 Toyota MatrixImagine going into a dealership, forking over the cash for the car you want, and then shortly after having the vice president of that very automaker present you with a check for the same amount you paid for the car. Dream on, you say? Well, actually, Mr. Tyler, we’re not dreaming; that’s exactly what happened to the 4 millionth Toyota certified pre-owned customer, Jose Ortiz, when he purchased a 2010 Toyota Matrix from Dunning Toyota last month.

The sale that took place at the dealership in Ypsilanti, Michigan, was a momentous occasion for Ortiz and for Toyota. It marked the first time a brand sold 4 million CPO automobiles in automotive history. That’s why Bill Fay, VP and general manager of Toyota Division at Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., presented Ortiz with a check for the cost of the Matrix. Not a bad day for Mr. Ortiz, eh?

In addition, Toyota donated the same amount to Alpha House Interfaith Hospitality Network, which is a local non-profit organization that Dunning Toyota has sponsored for several years. This non-profit is committed to helping families handle the challenges of everyday life, providing them with the resources they need to be successful and happy.

“Driven by great teamwork, Toyota’s certified used vehicle program has been a tremendous success not only in terms of units sold, but also in building customer loyalty,” commented Fay.  “Toyota was the first manufacturer to have a certified used vehicle program and there is no better way to celebrate this milestone than to buy a Toyota certified for our 4 millionth customer. On behalf of Toyota, I’d like to thank Jose Ortiz for being part of the Toyota family.”

NOTE: Be sure to scoop up a certified pre-owned Matrix for yourself, as Toyota has discontinued the unfortunately Keanu Reeves-related hatchback for 2014.
