An important part of a New Year’s resolution is holding yourself accountable. 4 New Years Resolutions That Will Make You a Better Driver
While it may be tempting to cruise at five or 10 miles per hour above the speed limit, try to stay under the legally posted speed limit at all times during the new year. Those speed limits are posted for a reason, and sometimes we don’t always know what that reason is. There may be upcoming construction, blind corners, dangerous hills, or other obstacles to be aware of. Trust the legal speed limit and consciously follow it.
Use your turn signals
For some reason, there are a significant number of drivers out there who don’t use their turn signals (we’re looking at you, North Carolina). Turn signals are not for you, they’re for the drivers around you. Make sure you’re signaling before merging, changing lanes, or turning to let drivers know what your intentions are. That way, they can plan their own actions behind the wheel accordingly.
Keep up with regular maintenance
If you break down on the side of the road, it’s more than an inconvenience. It can be a huge safety hazard for you and the drivers around you, especially at high speeds. In 2018, make an effort to keep up with regular maintenance including oil changes, tire rotations and replacements, and battery checks.
Stop texting and driving
This is obvious. Or, at least, it should be obvious. Stop texting and driving. There is no text or flit through Facebook that’s worth risking your life and the lives of the people around you. Listen to AT&T: it can wait.
