If you happen to have nearly a million dollars to spend on a new car and were looking for something one-of-a-kind to flaunt, chances are your eyes were on the 2014 BMW i8 Concours d’Elegance Edition being auctioned off on Saturday, August 16. If you, like the rest of us, weren’t one of the affluent bidders, we’ll fill you in on the results.

The One and Only 2014 BMW i8 Concours d’Elegance Edition

If you hadn’t read our original coverage of the 2014 BMW i8 Concours d’Elegance Edition slated to be auctioned at the Pebble Beach Auctions, here’s a brief recap:

“The Concours d’Elegance Edition of the 2014 i8 was designed specifically for the Pebble Beach Auctions, presented by Gooding & Company. The first aspect that stands out is the unique paint scheme, advertised as a “unique frozen grey metallic” exterior with a “pure impulse tera world” interior, which won’t be available on other models.

“The second feature will be “Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Edition” laser inscribed into the door sills, accompanied by a plaque on the rear parcel shelf featuring signatures of BMW head designers and board members. Other interior features include Dalbergia Brown leather upholstery, and BMW iBlue accents.

“Undeniably, the classiest aspect of the Concours d’Elegance Edition will be the Louis Vuitton luggage custom-tailored for the BMW i8. Yes, you can have your cake and carry with you, too.”

The Auction Results

The auction took place on August 16 as part of the annual Pebble Beach Auction’s, hosted by Gooding & Company. Jay Leno lent his not-ready-to-retire wit (sans his own Eubanks laugh section) to the evening’s festivities, functioning as the Costello to Ludwig Willisch’s (President and CEO of BMW of North America) Abbott.

The final selling price of the 2014 BMW i8 Concours d’Elegance Edition was a whopping $825,000, including buyer’s premier.

Where will the money raised in the auction go, you may ask? Apart from celebrity endorsements, the proceeds will benefit Monterey County youth through the Pebble Beach Company Foundation.

Luckily for the rest of us, the final bid was six times the the standard $135,700 MSRP for the 2014 BMW i8. So, getting one might not be as far out of reach as you’d expect.
