Chrysler Group SUVs recalled

No, this is not an April Fools’ joke, although The News Wheel editor, Kyle Johnson, did have a bit of fun with April Fools’ recalls yesterday. Chrysler Group has issued a recall for roughly 870,000 Chrysler Group SUVs, including Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Durangos from model years 2011 – 2014.

Reportedly, the automaker launched an investigation following customer feedback concerning “excessive brake-pedal firmness.” Through the investigation, Chrysler discovered that the brake boosters of certain affected vehicles have small crimp joints, which may exhibit corrosion when they are exposed to water. If corrosion does occur, water could enter the boosters and freeze, compromising brake function.

Chrysler Group has reported one related accident but no injuries.

Brake boosters of affected vehicles will be inspected and replaced, if necessary, at no cost to the owners. In addition, all boosters will be equipped with a shield that will insulate the crimp joints from any water.

Chrysler Group will reach out to affected customers in a timely manner, but concerned customers may contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 for more information about the Chrysler Group SUVs recalled.
