At this year’s New York International Auto Show, Subaru took a dive into 2019 with the release of the all-new Subaru Forester. Redesigned, this is the first year of the model’s fifth generation.

The 2019 Subaru Forester includes a larger interior for a more comfortable passenger experience and a total of 76.1 cubic feet of cargo space. Creating the 2019 model, designers lowered the 60/40-split rear seatbacks to create an additional 1.4 cubic feet of space.

There’s an entirely new trim available on the 2019 Forester: the Sport. The Forester Sport comes with its own unique exterior design, including a black gloss finish frame, black-finish 18-inch wheels, and a rear roof spoiler. The interior also has an exclusive design: dark gray materials with orange stitching and accents.

“The Forester Sport exclusively employs a version of Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) with Intelligent and Sport Sharp modes and the Lineartronic CVT features a seven-speed manual mode with steering wheel paddle-shift control switches,” said Subaru.

The Subaru Forester’s powertrain has been updated for 2019, as well. Across all trim levels, the Forester’s 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER four-cylinder engine has been updated, adding direct fuel injection, higher compression, and an active valve control system (AVCS). The powertrain now exudes 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque, a significant jump from last year’s model. The engine is paired to a standard Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) and offers auto-stop/start technology.

Driver-assist technologies are available throughout the Forester’s trim levels, including features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure and Sway Warning, Lane Keep Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.
