American Honda Motor Co. made two big announcements today regarding next month’s 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, promising offerings from both its Acura and Honda divisions. The latter will be represented in the Motor City by the debut of the new 2017 Honda Ridgeline, while the former will be present in the form of a new Acura Precision Concept.

Honda also released a teaser image (above) of the Acura Precision Concept, which will debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show on January 12, 2016, at 8 am. Created by the Acura Design Studio in California, the Japanese automaker says that the Acura Precision Concept will “help set the direction for future Acura design; in particular, the next generation of performance-luxury sedans.”

“The Acura Precision Concept will signal the stronger and sharper focus of Acura styling on our core DNA we call ‘precision crafted performance’,” said Dave Marek, the Acura brand’s global creative director. “It is our intention to more strongly express performance through design and the Acura Precision Concept will serve as the inspiration for the styling and proportion of the next-generation of Acura vehicles, especially for our sedans.”

How exactly will Acura play up performance more in its new design? Hard to say just from looking at the teaser photo, which looks very sleek and streamlined, but doesn’t give us a good look at the front fascia, leaving us to wonder if Acura will finally be ditching or at least downplaying the whole beak-like grille thing. We may just have to wait until January to see what new styling direction the luxury brand will take.
