2016 Chevy Camaro Teaser

In case you haven’t heard us mention it the last one or two (billion) times, the new 2016 Chevy Camaro will have its public debut this Saturday, May 16th, at Detroit’s Belle Isle Park. The sixth-gen Camaro then won’t have a traditional auto show appearance until it bows at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show in November (around the same time it will be hitting dealerships).

So the car has about six months to get from Motor City to the City of Angels, and you know what that means: ROOOOOOAAAD TRIIIIIIIIIIP!!!!

The sixth-gen Camaro will be making public appearances at various events in the lead-up to its late autumn sales debut, beginning with a cameo at the Indianapolis 500, May 24th through 25th. Then the muscle car is on to Cincinnati for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Great American Ball Park on July 14th, where there is a good chance it will be given to the game’s Most Valuable Player. After that, the Camaro can be seen on Michigan’s Woodward Dream Cruise on August 15th, and then the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion in California from August 13-16.

“We’re building a schedule right now,” Camaro marketing manager Todd Christensen told Edmunds. “We’re fighting over who gets to use them. You’ll see a combination of some enthusiast events and some bigger events following the car’s reveal.”

“As a car guy, it’s a monumental event,” Christensen said of the six-gen model’s upcoming tour. He also confirmed that the Camaro in question at those initial events will be a red 2016 Camaro SS coupe.

The car will return to Belle Isle for the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix on May 29-31, and a fleet of Camaros featuring a range of powertrains and trim levels will visit Bowling Green, Kentucky, for Camaro Fest on August 7-9.

But don’t go to any of these events with a “Shut up and take my money!” attitude, or you’ll leave disappointed.

“No, we can’t take orders,” said Christensen. “It has to be done through the dealers.”
